** Satsuma-Yaki (Kagoshima) is Traditional Craft Products designated by the Japanese Government on 2002/1/30.
Originated by Korean potters in the late 16th century. There were two distinctive styles handed down, "Kuronon" (or simple black Satsuma) and "Shiromon" (or graceful white Satsuma) with fine crackle for the lower and upper classes respectively at that time . Aprox. 203 potteries engage in pottery production.
