** Hagi-Yaki (Yamaguchi) is Traditional Craft Products designated by the Japanese Government.
Originated in the early 17th century. As a result of a campaign with Hideyoshi on the Korean peninsula, two Korean started Hagi-Yaaki in the area. Since the soft clay is fired at low temperatures for long time, the Hagi-Yaki can gradually abosorb liquid like sake or tea which result in "Hagi no Nana Bake" (or the seven metamorphosis of Hagi-Yaki). Another feature is its simplicity of form and decoration without no under- or overglazing. Approx. 126 potteries engage in pottery production.
