‘Aizuhongo-Yaki’s Pottery / Munakata-Gama’ (Fukushima)!
Aizuhongo-Yaki was started actually in 1645 by Seto-Yaki’s potter who was invited by Aizu lord. It is said that Aizuhongo-Yaki is the oldest pottery in the Tohoku region. It is Traditional Craft Products designated by the Japanese Government on 1976/6/2.
The ancestor of Munakata-gama, moved to Aizu, Fukushima Pref. from Munakata, Fukuoka Pref. for missionary work of Munakata Taisha. They started pottery for their living here. At present, it is operated by Toshihiro Munakata, the Eighth Master of the kiln and Toshinori Munakata, his son.
