‘Mashiko-Yaki / popular pottery produced in Tokyo vicinity’ (Tochigi)!

Mashiko-Yaki is recognized as one of the major pottery producing centers in Japan. It was influenced by the late Shoji Hamada who was one of leaders of the Folk Craft Movement and a Living National Treasure in Japan

The center of Mashiko town has rows of stores and potters’ galleries selling Mashiko-Yaki pottery along the ‘Jonai-zaka’ street. The major shop might be Kamamoto’s Kyohan center selling many potters’ works where the huge raccoon dog welcome tourist.
